Assembly Line

You must defend against an onslaught of slimes that are attacking the meadow by assembling various buildings to fight back. The game is inspired by Bloons TD 6.

I wrote the code and drew the pixel art (albeit not great pixel art) during the timeframe. I used free assets for the color palette, font, music, and sound effects, due to time and skill constraints.

Instructions

Press and hold with your mouse on a grid cell to destroy stumps, trees, pebbles, and boulders. This is how you collect resources to build towers with.

Use the number keys (1-6) or the first letter of the tower to select it (you can also click on the left hand GUI if the keyboard is unavailable). Then click on an available cell to purchase it and place it on the grid. You can press space or enter to switch back into breaking mode.

The goal is to destroy all of the incoming enemies before they reach the end of the track. They can all be destroyed in one shot (aside from bigger enemies splitting into two), and it only takes one enemy getting through for you to lose and restart the level.

Towers

Tent

Costs 3 wood to build. Select by pressing 1 or T.

Periodically spawns soldiers that march towards and punch the closest slime. It's a bit of a kamikaze mission.

Laser

Costs 4 rock to build. Select by pressing 2 or L.

Shoots a laser beam at the closest enemy, which destroys it once it reaches full power. Will not target enemies that are already being targeted by other towers.

Blade

Costs 5 rock to build. Select by pressing 3 or B.

A spinning blade that will slice through all nearby enemies, coming to a stop temporarily once something has been hit, before powering up again. Will not target enemies that are already being targeted by other towers.

Spike

Costs 1 rock to build. Select by pressing 4 or S.

Can be placed on the track to pop one slime, but it's a single use item for when you're in a pinch.

Farm

Costs 4 wood to build. Select by pressing 5 or F.

Periodically produces 1 wood automatically.

Mine

Costs 4 wood to build. Select by pressing 6 or M.

Periodically produces 1 rock automatically.

Limitation

The theme for Mini Jam 201 is "Support". For this game, I interpreted defending against hordes of enemies as support.

The limitation is "Only one shot". I'm interpreting this to mean that everything can be destroyed with one shot. Earlier in the planning stage, I had intended to have the buildings collapse after they shoot a single time, but I decided that this would make the gameplay less enjoyable and that it wasn't worth it.

My primary goal is to have fun building a game and learning Godot, and hopefully make a game others will have fun playing.
